MICO - solutions for intelligent power distribution

8 devices of the MICO family now meet the requirements of NEC Class 2, which allows customers to efficiently design a power distribution scheme. NEC (National Electrical Code) is the main North American standard and regulates the installation of wiring and equipment inside and outside buildings and premises.

Complex power supply systems with many components require reliable overload protection. Switching power supplies are the basis of these systems, since they electronically control the output voltage and output current. In the event of a short circuit or overload, protective devices going further along the circuit (for example, such as a circuit breaker) react more slowly than the power supply unit and do not provide selectivity. This can lead to such critical situations as voltage fluctuations or even a cable fire. Compact MICO modules will help to eliminate these problems, being an integral component for the protection of power supply systems! MICO devices eliminate peaks that occur during startup by using a time delay (cascade start) for each individual channel, which allows you to use a power source with a lower output current.

Murrelektronik has expanded the scope of application of MICO devices: they can now be used for applications requiring certification according to UL 1310/508, Class 2 (maximum output power of 100 W). For customers, this means that it is now possible to organize an electricity distribution system even faster, in a more compact and cost-effective design. All that is needed is a standard power supply unit (not necessarily certified according to the NEC Class 2 standard) and a MICO device for designing two, four or eight separate loads with a power limit in an electrical circuit. When connecting several MICO modules with an integrated switching system, the number of channels can be increased up to a total current of 40 A.
