Six instruments in one oscilloscope!

Tektronix, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, announced today the release of combined oscilloscopes of the MDO3000 series. Due to the high degree of integration, the MDO3000 oscilloscope contains a spectrum analyzer, a logic analyzer, a protocol analyzer, an arbitrary waveform generator and a digital multimeter. This allows you to do with one device without expensive specialized equipment when testing and debugging almost any embedded systems. In addition, Tektronix has made the MDO3000 oscilloscopes fully customizable, giving customers the opportunity to choose the functionality and characteristics needed both now and in the future.

With the increasing complexity of modern embedded systems, combined with the growing spread of wireless devices, the purchase of all the devices necessary for developers to effectively debug and diagnose is becoming more expensive. The MDO3000 fundamentally changes the rules of the game, offering the functions of six independent devices in one, relatively inexpensive device.

"The integrated, multi – functional oscilloscope is extremely attractive by many criteria," said Dave Farrell, CEO of the oscilloscope department at Tektronix. – In addition to budget savings, the MDO3000 saves space on the desktop, increases usability by combining several devices with a single standard interface, and guarantees constant access to all necessary functions. You don't have to look for a spectrum analyzer or a generator of standard functions, since they are already built into your oscilloscope."

Recent studies have shown that more than 25% of oscilloscope owners use a spectrum analyzer several times a week, and more than 40 % of embedded systems have some kind of wireless interface. Being the only oscilloscopes in the world with a built-in spectrum analyzer, the MDO3000 series oscilloscopes fully comply with these trends. Now engineers can perform analysis in the time and frequency domains using a single instrument. Compared to individual oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers of this class, the combined MDO3000 oscilloscope has best-in-class characteristics and capabilities, offering the convenience of a single device without compromising technical characteristics.

Fully updated platform

The MDO3000 series oscilloscopes allow engineers to start with the minimum performance and functionality needed to complete the current project. But at the same time, they can be sure that they will be able to quickly update the measuring platform as needed. The updated characteristics include the analog bandwidth of the oscilloscope and the frequency range of the spectrum analyzer. Functional updates include additional digital channels, a protocol analyzer, an arbitrary waveform generator and a digital multimeter.

6 instruments, 1 oscilloscope, unprecedented flexibility

The MDO3000 series oscilloscopes have 2 or 4 analog channels with an upper limit of the bandwidth from 100 MHz to 1 GHz, 16 digital channels (optional) and one RF channel of the spectrum analyzer with a frequency range from 9 kHz to the upper limit of the analog channel bandwidth. The frequency range of the RF input can be extended to 3 GHz for any model.

Built on the basis of MSO/DPO3000 mixed signal oscilloscopes, MDO3000 oscilloscopes offer the best debugging functions in the industry. Thanks to the new FastAcq function, MDO3000 oscilloscopes support a capture rate of more than 280,000 waveforms per second, which are displayed on a clear display with a digital phosphor, which facilitates the search for rarely appearing signal anomalies. More than 125 start conditions, automatic analysis of serial and parallel bus signals, the innovative Wave Inspector control system and optional automatic power circuit measurements complement traditional functions and offer a comprehensive set of tools for each stage of debugging. This functionality is expanded by adding 9 additional modules for analyzing serial bus signals-I 2 C, SPI, RS-232, USB 2.0, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, MIL-STD-1553 and Audio.

The integrated optional arbitrary waveform generator with a frequency of up to 50 MHz is more than 2 times faster than competing offers and has eight times more signal memory compared to them. The built-in digital voltmeter allows you to measure the RMS value of alternating voltage, constant voltage or the RMS value of alternating+constant voltage with a resolution of 3.5 digits, as well as measure the frequency with a resolution of 5 digits, and the measurement results are displayed on a large, easy-to-read display that allows you to instantly notice changes in readings. When registering the MDO3000, the digital voltmeter function is offered free of charge.

"We wholeheartedly support the trend of widespread distribution of integrated devices. Now we can give our engineers a complete set of necessary tools, while reducing operating costs, " said Scott Ausborn, chief testing specialist at Logitech, Europe. – But what makes the MDO3000 oscilloscopes especially attractive is the integrated spectrum analyzer. Every day there are more and more wireless devices, which creates problems of electromagnetic interference, so the spectrum analyzer integrated into the oscilloscope is not just convenient, but actually necessary."
